Andres Valencia (b. 2011) is a California-based contemporary artist known for large, dramatic, colorful figurative paintings that are deeply influenced by Cubism. Valencia has been painting since he was five years old. He stands on a step ladder to create large-scale works with a mix of oil stick, and oil and acrylic paint, seeking to create bold colors and wildly imaginative fragmented facial compositions. Teachers involved in his California public school Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program quickly identified his extraordinary talent. Surrounded by art at home, Valencia is inspired by Francisco Goya, Pablo Picasso, George Condo, and Salvador Dalí.
At the young age of eleven, he has had enormous success catching the attention of the press and art collectors from around the world. During Art Miami, 2021, he was featured on Good Morning America, and many other significant news outlets globally. His entire body of art works sold out on the opening night of Art Miami in 2021, becoming the youngest artist in history to have his own booth at Art Miami. His success continued in 2022, as every painting sold in one day at Art Palm Beach in March, 2022, and all works sold before the opening of his solo exhibition in New York in June. Profiles about Valencia have been released in The New York Times, Forbes, The Times, NPR, Artnet News, Robb Report, Smithsonian Magazine, among many other international publications. His auction debut featured the painting "Ms Cube" at Phillips, Hong Kong, realizing a $160,000 sale price, over three times the high estimate. Another hit $230,000 at a charity gala in Capri, Italy. His works are in the private collections of Robbi and Bruce E. Toll, Jessica Goldman Srebnick, Sofía Vergara, Tommy Mottola, and Kim Tae-hyung (known as "V" in the group BTS). He has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity, donating works to raise money for amfAR, UNICEF, and Box of Hope, and the Klitschko Foundation in Ukraine. To date, Valencia has donated over $750,000 to charity.
“I just want the world to know my work,” he said of his primary goal.
Chase Contemporary is pleased to announce the opening of a new solo exhibition by the San Diego-based figurative painter Andres Valencia. The exhibition will present a series of paintings and works on paper created between 2020- 2022 and will mark the artist's first New York solo show. An opening reception with the artist will be held on Thursday, June 23rd, from 5-8pm at 413 West Broadway in New York.
Valencia’s first New York solo show follows a sold out booth at Art Miami in December 2021, where the artist, who is ten-years-old but has been painting since he was five, presented his work for sale to the public for the first time. The second show of his work that was offered for sale at the Palm Beach Art Fair in March 2022 also sold out within hours.
Valencia paints in a style that is reminiscent of the work of Pablo Picasso and George Condo but which is entirely his own. His first solo show, much anticipated by the media and art collectors, is titled "No Rules," reflecting the artist’s experimental approach to painting as much as his belief that creativity is unbounded and great art can be produced at any age by any artist. The show includes over 30 paintings made in his home studio in San Diego when he is not attending school like other kids his age or outside playing with his friends. Subjects of his paintings include abstract portraits of friends and family, but also purely imaginative imagery that comes to him. He likes to paint an image directly onto the canvas with a mix of oil stick, and oil and acrylic paint, often in bold colors resulting in colorful, imaginative and fragmented compositions.
In addition to a selection of paintings, the show will debut his second archival print release. His next print features the invented character of “Alberto the Clown” and is available exclusively through Chase Contemporary in New York on a first come first serve basis.
Collectors of his paintings include celebrities and business leaders: Sofia Vergara, Tommy Mottola, Thalia, Jessica Goldman (CEO Wynwood Walls), Jordan Belford, Logan Paul, Ryan Garcia, among others. The artist has a social conscience and in addition to believing creativity has no fixed boundaries has committed a new work to be sold on July 30th at the LuisaViaRoma x UNICEF Summer Gala, a night dedicated to children in emergency with a live report from Ukraine. The live auction conducted by Simon de Pury raises funds to support UNICEF's programs worldwide.
